netatalk.sourceforge.net

Welcome to netatalk.sourceforge.net!

Netatalk is a freely-available, kernel level implementation of the AppleTalk Protocol Suite, originally for BSD-derived systems. A *NIX/*BSD system running netatalk is capable of serving many macintosh clients simultaneously as an AppleTalk router, AppleShare file server (AFP), *NIX/*BSD print server, and for accessing AppleTalk printers via Printer Access Protocol (PAP). Included are a number of minor printing and debugging utilities.

Netatalk 2.0.4 is available!

The Netatalk development team is proud to announce version 2.0.4 of the Netatalk File Sharing suite. This is the latest stable version. It contains several important bugfixes, including a security fix for papd (see CVE-2008-5718), therefore all users are encouraged to upgrade their systems to 2.0.4.

For a list of recent changes see the NEWS file.

In case, you want to upgrade an existing Netatalk 1.x installation, ensure you carefully read the upgrade guide before and follow the steps outlined there. If you made use of symlinks inside Netatalk shares consider setting up a test installation with 2.0 before migrating since Netatalk 2.0 provides no support for symlinks any longer.

Important Information

The etc2ps.sh script delivered with all Netatalk versions prior to 2.0.1 has been found to be vulnerable to symlink attacks. See CAN-2004-0974 for details.

Please note that the handling of the default type/creator has changed since 2.0.1. As a side effect, users upgrading from earlier versions, including 2.0.0, will have to remove the default type/creator from the AppleVolumes.System file. The install process will not modify this file automatically. Please remove the line starting with

    .         "????"

manually.

Netatalk 1.6.4a released
